Push hard and fast — 100–120 compressions per minute (about 2 per second)
Step-by-step instructions
Check responsiveness — shake shoulders and shout. If no response, call 112.
Lay person flat on a firm surface. Open the airway — tilt head back, lift chin.
Place heel of one hand on center of chest. Place other hand on top. Lock elbows.
Push hard and fast — at least 5 cm deep. Allow chest to fully recoil between compressions.
Do not stop compressions unless the person responds or help takes over.
After 30 compressions, give 2 rescue breaths if trained. Continue cycles of 30:2.
Key Warnings
- Do not stop compressions to check for breathing or pulse.
- Do not move the person unless in immediate danger.
- Use an AED as soon as one is available.
