REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Humans are less dense than quicksand — you sink to about waist or chest then float. Death comes from exposure, tide, or panic struggle.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Victim thrashing vertically wastes energy and pulls mud over face.
MYTH: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Strong people can lift victims out by the arms
REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Vertical pull increases suction and can dislocate shoulders. Horizontal drag along the surface works.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Failed lift leaves victim deeper when rescuer tires.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Quicksand and liquefied mud trap by suction — not by swallowing like a movie.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Tidal flats and riverbanks can liquefy after rain or during outgoing tide.
