Civilian Emergency Platform
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — You are stuck in deep mud, quicksand, tidal flat, or saturated soil and cannot free your legs.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — NOT EXPERT REVIEWED — NOT FOR PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Feet sinking despite standing still.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Legs pulled down when trying to step out.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Water line rising on flat beach or estuary.
Scene hazards: Drowning as tide rises, Hypothermia, Exhaustion, Secondary rescuer engulfment
Sudden pulling on one leg creates suction that traps both legs deeper.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Freeze. Spread arms wide for balance.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Drop heavy items if you can do so without tipping forward.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Shout to helper on firm ground — do not let them run to you.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Lean torso backward slowly — back float posture if depth allows.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Wiggle legs gently to introduce water under feet — sudden yank fails.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Helper extends branch, rope, or jacket on solid ground while lying flat.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Once partially free, crawl along surface to firm ground — do not stand until stable.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Call 112 if tide rising, person to chest depth, or cold exposure signs.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Describe mud flat location, tide state, and number stuck.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Coast guard or mud rescue units may be needed on tidal flats.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Hypothermia and crush injury from suction require medical care.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Tidal entrapment is time-critical — rescue before next high tide.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT panic-kick — sinks you faster.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT helper walk upright into mud — they will become second victim.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT light fire on unstable ground for warmth.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT separate stuck pair by pulling one person hard.
MYTH: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Quicksand will pull you completely under like in movies
REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Humans are less dense than liquefied sand and usually float at chest level if they stop struggling. Drowning happens from tides and face-down panic, not total submersion.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Exhaustion from fighting suction and tidal drowning while face down.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Quicksand and mud flats are liquefied soil — movement increases suction around legs.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Tidal flats can flood faster than walking speed to safety.
