Unstable rubble kills rescuers. Stop if the pile shifts, cracks, or groans.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Stop all movement and noise. Shout once: "Rescue! Tap if you can hear me!"
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Listen for 30 seconds in complete silence.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — If you hear tapping, mark the spot and call 112 before touching anything.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Search from stable edges inward — never stand on the pile center.

MYTH: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Finding someone means you should pull them out right away
REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Improper extrication worsens crush injuries and can collapse the void space. Stabilize, communicate, and wait for trained rescue.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Paralysis, hemorrhage, and secondary collapse during amateur rescue.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Survivors in void spaces may have hours to days of air if they protected their airway and stayed still.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Untrained digging collapses void spaces and kills trapped people.
