DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Someone is in trouble at a swimming pool — submerged, not moving, or injured at the pool edge.

DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Person is at the bottom of the pool and not moving.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Child is missing from the pool area — check the water first.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Person hit their head diving and is floating face-up, confused, or not moving.
Scene hazards: Slippery deck, Deep end, Electrical equipment, Diving injury
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Shout for lifeguard. If none — call 112.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Use the pool hook (shepherd's crook) to reach the person if they are near the edge.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Throw a ring buoy or flotation device to a conscious person in deep water.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — If trained and necessary — enter water with flotation, approach from behind.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Remove from water onto flat deck. Check breathing. Start CPR if not breathing.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — If spinal injury suspected ( diving accident ) — keep head and neck still.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Call 112. Give pool name, address, or nearest landmark.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — All pool submersion incidents require ambulance transport.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT assume splashing means play — verify the person is okay.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT leave children unattended near any water, including shallow wading areas.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT jump in without checking depth — diving into shallow water causes spinal injury.
MYTH: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — A lifeguard means you do not need to watch your child
REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Lifeguards watch many people. Active supervision by a designated adult is essential.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Child drowns while parents assume lifeguard is watching their child specifically.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Pool drowning is often silent. A child can drown in the time it takes to answer a phone call.
