Civilian Emergency Platform
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — A power line has fallen onto a car, bus, or other vehicle with people inside.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — NOT EXPERT REVIEWED — NOT FOR PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Wire draped over hood, roof, or touching vehicle body.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Arcing between wire and vehicle.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Occupants trapped inside during storm or accident.
Scene hazards: Step potential, Vehicle fire, Rescue electrocution
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — If inside — stay seated, windows up, do not touch metal parts connected to frame.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Call 101 and electricity emergency on speaker phone.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Warn anyone approaching to stay far back.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — If smoke or fire forces exit — remove loose metal items, open door edge with dry cloth.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Jump with both feet together landing clear of vehicle — do not step out normally.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Shuffle small steps away keeping feet together for 10+ meters.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do not return to vehicle for any reason.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Call 101 and electricity emergency — vehicle contact with line is priority.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Report number of occupants and whether fire present.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Stay on line until utility confirms power off.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Occupants need medical check after energized vehicle incident.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Utility must de-energize before vehicle recovery.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT exit normally by stepping one foot at a time to ground.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT allow bystanders to touch vehicle to help.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT assume rubber tires make it safe to stand outside touching door.
MYTH: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Rubber tires always protect you so you can exit normally
REALITY: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — At high voltage, current can arc to ground when you step out. Stay inside or jump clear properly.
DANGER: DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Fatal step potential on exit.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Tires do not guarantee insulation at distribution voltages — vehicle may be fully energized.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Safe exit requires breaking contact with vehicle and ground simultaneously.
