Three critical skills

Quick reference if you cannot open a full guide.

CPR — adult not breathing

Open guide
  1. Call 112 and put the phone on speaker.
  2. Push hard and fast in the centre of the chest — about 100–120 presses per minute.
  3. Allow the chest to rise fully between compressions.
  4. Do not stop until help arrives or the person starts breathing normally.

Heavy bleeding

Open guide
  1. Call 112 if bleeding is severe or does not stop.
  2. Apply firm, direct pressure with a clean cloth or dressing.
  3. Keep pressure steady — do not peek to check too often.
  4. If blood soaks through, add more cloth on top without removing the first layer.

Choking — adult

Open guide
  1. Ask "Are you choking?" — if they cannot speak or breathe, act immediately.
  2. Call 112 or ask someone else to call.
  3. Give up to 5 sharp back blows between the shoulder blades.
  4. If that fails, give up to 5 abdominal thrusts (Heimlich manoeuvre).
