Break suction at head — do not pull. Wash wound. Pressure if bleeding.

Step 1: Do not pull leech off forcefully
Step 2: Slide fingernail under leech head to break suction, or use salt at edge if trained
Step 3: Wash area with soap and water after removal
Step 4: Apply pressure if bleeding continues
Step 5: Watch wound for infection over next days
