Chlorine is heavier than air — avoid low areas, basements, and storm drains.
Run upwind to fresh air. Seal room if told. Flush eyes. Call 112.
Step 1: Move upwind and to higher ground immediately
Step 2: Do not inhale — get to fresh air as fast as possible
Step 3: If shelter in place is ordered — seal windows and doors tightly
Step 4: Flush eyes and skin with water if exposed
Step 5: Call 112 — report chlorine release and your symptoms
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT mix bleach with other cleaners to "identify" the leak — this creates more gas.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT go back for belongings inside a chlorine cloud.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT assume recovery because coughing stopped — delayed lung swelling can occur.
Breathing difficulty, persistent cough, or eye burns after chlorine need emergency care.
