Move upwind quickly. Avoid basements, ditches, and valleys where gas may pool.
Go upwind fast. Do not breathe it. Seal room if told to shelter. Call 112.
Step 1: Move upwind immediately — ammonia is heavier than air in cool conditions and collects in low spots
Step 2: Do not inhale — cover mouth with damp cloth only while escaping
Step 3: If told to shelter in place — seal windows and doors with wet towels
Step 4: If exposed — move to fresh air and flush eyes and skin with water
Step 5: Call 112 and report ammonia leak location
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT go downwind to investigate the leak or help equipment.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT use elevators if gas may be in the building — use stairs if evacuating.
DEVELOPMENT FIXTURE — Do NOT assume a damp cloth is enough protection to stay near the leak.
Anyone with chest tightness, hoarse voice, or eye burns after ammonia exposure needs emergency care.
